Annual Report 2011 Pedagogy Intercultural Education The round table on Intercultural Education, organized by the Pedagogy course of the Faculdades Integradas Rio Branco and mediated by the coordinator Maria Alice Castro Rocha, gathered together the experts Abdel-Jalil Akkari, from the University of Geneva, José Nilson Machado, from the Universidade de São Paulo (São Paulo City Public University) and Esther Carvalho, José Nilson Machado, Abdel-Jalil Akkari, Colégio Rio Branco Principal. The lecturers emphasized the Esther Carvalho and Maria Alice Rocha meaning of an intercultural education which is connected to the idea of an open society, where the different forms of thought, language and behavior have their place, as well as interdisciplinary principles. International Relations Libya Teachers of the International Relations course, Guilherme Casarões, Denilde Oliveira Holzhacker and Gunther Rudzit exposed to the students of the International Relations, Journalism and Law Courses the situation in Libya and its impacts due to popular manifestations against the government. International Relations teachers talked about Libya’s political situation Economics A lecture on economics, delivered by Nelson Marconi, the Economics course coordinator of Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV – Getúlio Vargas Foundation), upon the beginning of the school year, focused on the Brazilian situation in comparison to other countries and discussed the consequences of its ever growing insertion into the international scenario. Nelson Marconi talked about the Brazilian economic situation Student Visa and Education Abroad The United States Consulate representatives in São Paulo, Jay Kimmel, vice-consul, and Cibelle Bueno, from the Visa Department, talked about the importance of the international experience and the processes involved in the grant of student visas. Thais Burmeister, advisor of Education USA, official source about studies in the United States of America, exposed the several exchange possibilities in that country.
