ENGLISH LANGUAGE THE YOUNG MASTERS PROGRAMME ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT A unique experience between young adults worldwide on how to cooperate with issues related to sustainability. The programme promotes the interaction among youngsters, worldwide, throght an education network Agency (Sida), the Centre for Environmental Education and Communication of Ministry of Environmental Protection, People’s Republic of China (CEEC), the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), and the Foundation for Environment Education (FEE). OUT OF EDEN: ENGLISH ELECTIVE MODULE The Colégio Rio Branco is the first school in Brazil to participate in the platform “Out of Eden Learn” from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Annual Report 2014 37 Students of Colégio Rio Branco Elementary School 9th grade participate in the English Advanced Study module of The Young Masters Programme on Sustainable Development, an online education and global learning network. The interaction happens through a secure learning platform and the course is divided into missions. Each group of students must accomplish them, propose solutions to the social and environmental problems presented and evaluate the suggestions given by other participants. The Young Masters Programme was proposed by The International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE), an international and multidisciplinary institute from Lund University in Sweden which has partners such as Unesco, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Students from Elementary School 9th grade to High School 2nd grade are participating in the “Out Of Eden” project, which connects the English discipline to the use of photographs, videos or podcast as a way of portraying society and expose findings to the virtual community. This activity is based on the Out Of Eden Walk, a project by the American journalist Paul Salopek who journeyed on foot “the pathway of mankind”, from Ethiopia to South America, seeking to slow down, observe and understand what makes us a global community. From this experience, the Harvard Graduate School of Education created the online platform “Out Of Eden Learn” where students can follow Salopek, reflect on his journey and talk to other students using the English language about different subjects such as journalism, culture, history and photography, among others.
