SECRETARIES Ed Futa Rotariansince1979,EdFutaisamemberofthe Rotary Club from East Honolulu, in Hawaii. General Secretary of Rotary International, during Dong Kurn Lee's management, Ed Futa served Rotary in several missions, holding relevant positionswithseveralRotarianinstitutions. ByknowingtheFundaçãodeRotarianosdeSão Paulo,uponvisitingallthemaintainedentities,Ed Futaexpressedhisadmirationforthewaythatthe Foundation contributes towards education in Brazil, offering infrastructure and methodology whichresultintoahighleveleducation. Praising Rotary's universal family character, Ed Futa invoked the importance of interchanges, communication across Rotarians of several countries, in order to communicate successful experiences in handling social and humanitarian matters, helping in the accomplishment of the missionofserving. John Hewko Devoting himself to volunteer work, looking for improvements to local and international communities, John Hewko, has been working since 2011 as secretary general and executive director of Rotary International and Rotary Foundation, in the USA, and runs offices in severalcountries. JohnHewko,associate-founderoftheRotaryClub ofKiev,Ukraine,wasvicepresidentofoperations at Millennium Challenge Corporation, from 2004 to2009,negotiatingagreementsforassistance to26countriesinAfrica,Asia,SouthAmerica,the Middle East and the former Soviet Union. He worked in the area of Law, specializing in internationalcorporatetransactionsinemerging markets. He is fluent in six languages, among whichstandsoutthePortugueseLanguage. JohnHewkoandhiswifeMargarita,knowingthe educationalworkoftheFundaçãodeRotarianos deSãoPaulo,accompaniedbyPresidentEduardo deBarrosPimentelandhiswifeMariaThereza, directors, managers and Rotarians, highlighted the importance of education for social transformation, showing themselves very interested in the work of the Rio Branco institutions.
