LECTURE Centro de Educação para Surdos Rio Branco received Grandma Rachel, who spoke to the students. By means of stories involving school, family and her favorite childhood games, Grandma Rachel, who is 88 and deaf, passed important values of the deaf culture and left an example of courage and love of living. Grandma Rachel GRADUATION Fifth Year Graduation The graduation ceremony of the 5th year students from the Centro de Educação para Surdos Rio Branco was attended by Dino Samaja, director of Fundação de Rotarianos de São Paulo, Marco Rossi, superintendent and class patron, Sabine Vergamini, principal of the Centro de Educação para Surdos, Esther Carvalho, principal of Colégio Rio Branco, Susana Penteado, director of Cepro, Cibelle Sousa Lima, pedagogical coordinator of Centro de Educação para Surdos, Alexandre Jurado Melendes, teacher honored by the class and Sabine Vergamini, director of CES. During their speeches, they saluted the graduates and wished them luck in the new school stage, attending regular classes at the Colégio Rio Branco and other partner schools, Managers and directors honored the graduates with the support of Libras interpreters. INTEGRATION Joint Planning of Activities During the Encontro Riobranquino 2011 (Rio Branco Meeting), teachers from the Centro de Educação para Surdos Rio Branco and from the Colégio Rio Branco discussed the possibility of carrying out joint activities with students from Pre-school to the 5th year, at both schools. Several proposals were put into action with the purpose of advancing relationships between hearing and deaf students. Activities began in February with Physical Education classes for 4th year students given jointly by teachers from both schools, in their respective units. Pre-schoolers got together at the facilities of the Centro de Educação para Surdos Rio Branco and at the Granja Vianna Unit of Colégio Rio Branco to play and explore spaces. Likewise, 2nd year students also got together and taught each other traditional games. The students from the 2nd year of Elementary School from Colégio Rio Branco visited the students from the Centro de Students from Centro de Educação para Surdos Rio Educação para Surdos Rio Branco as part of the project “Being a Branco had integration moments Child”, with the purpose of promoting exchanges between hearing and deaf children related to games and recreational activities. The children got together in the school’s patio, with the kids from the Colégio Rio Branco teaching games from indigenous cultures and learning, from the deaf kids, sing-song games. 77
