INFRASTRUCTURE New resources With the opening of the new cafeteria, children of the escola para crianças surdas rio branco were also given a fully-equipped area with an experimental kitchen designed for pedagogical activities based on culinary and for the practice of concepts studied in Sciences and Mathematics. The new expanded studio, equipped with advanced recording resources, will allow the broadcasting of students’ achievements through more sophisticated footage with The School’s new studio better editing options. LECTURES A Thousand Hands in a World The Mille Mains dans un Monde (A Thousand Hands in a World) group, made up by French researchers of the deaf culture, talked to deaf students from the Professional Learning Program for Deaf and Physically Impaired People, at Cepro, at the West Site campus. Using images and pictures, the group presented the students some of the main characteristics of French Sign Language, in a very informal atmosphere. The particularities of Brazil Sign language (Libras) were also presented by students of Cepro. A researcher of the Mille Mains dans Monde group presents the French Sign Language. Lecture with William Cereja The escola para crianças surdas rio branco was visited by William Roberto Cereja, author of the book “Português: Linguagens” (Portuguese: Languages). At the meeting with teachers, the author, whose book is adopted by the colégio rio branco, expressed his intention to develop materials for the deaf, in partnership with the escola para crianças surdas rio branco. Besides guiding him through the facilities and presenting the school methodology, the team offered suggestions to the author, for the adjustment of the audiovisual materials that are included in the book adopted by the school, considering the comprehension of deaf students. 78 Annual Report 2010
